Los Chicago Bulls de Pau Gasol asaltaron el Quicken Loans de Cleveland y se llevan el primer asalto de las semifinales de la Conferencia Este. Las bajas de JR Smith por sanción y de Kevin Love por lesión fueron un hándicap insalvable para los Cavaliers que, además, se tuvieron que enfrentar a un 21-7 de salida de los chicos de Thibodeau.
Mike Dunleavy volvió a ser un martillo pilón desde la larga distancia. El 34 de los Bulls anotó sus cinco primeros tiros sin fallo en el primer cuarto para sumar trece puntos en el 27-15 con el que empezó el partido. La gran defensa de los Bulls, su seña de identidad en los últimos años, hizo el resto en el primer cuarto. Chicago llegó a tener un +16 en el segundo cuarto (17-33) pero a partir de ahí, Kyrie Irving hizo su aparición estelar. El base de los Cavaliers dejó varias acciones marca de la casa para apretar el marcador al descanso (44-49).
Una canasta de Mozgov al inicio del tercer cuarto empató el choque a 51. Después se empataría a 53 pero los Cavaliers nunca se pusieron por delante. Un 17-2 de parcial con trece puntos de Pau Gasol en el tercer cuarto devolvió quince puntos de renta a los de Illinois. Mozgov no pudo defender el pick&pop de Gasol con Rose y el pívot de Sant Boi (10/16 en TC) castigó a los Cavaliers.
LeBron James puso a Cleveland a dos puntos a falta de seis minutos (84-86) pero la defensa de Chicago se impuso de ahí al final. James e Irving fallaron sendos triples para meterse en el partido, al 23 de los Cavaliers le señalaron pasos tras una gran defensa de Butler y después cometió una pérdida a falta de dos minutos y con el equipo a seis puntos. Chicago pega primero y se lleva una victoria importante de Ohio para quedarse el factor cancha aunque si algo han demostrado este año es que su campo no es el mejor sitio para ellos.
Al final, Kyrie fue el máximo anotador con 30 puntos y Rose con 25, el mejor de los Bulls. El base de Illinois sumó cinco rebotes y cinco asistencias.
